Walking up to Studio Issa on Avenue du Panthéon, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t your typical tourist hotel. It’s tucked into the Koekelberg neighborhood — honestly, a part of Brussels that most visitors never even think to explore. The building has that understated Belgian charm, nothing flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. This three-star property feels more like a well-kept secret than a commercial operation, which I actually found refreshing after staying in some of the more touristy spots downtown.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about Koekelberg — you’re still properly in Brussels, but you get to see how locals actually live. The area around Studio Issa has this authentic residential feel, with corner cafés and small shops that haven’t been overrun by tour groups. You know what’s interesting? Couples seem to really connect with this location (they rate it 8.6, which makes total sense), probably because it feels more intimate than staying right in the city center. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is practically on your doorstep, and honestly, the views from up there are worth the short walk alone.

The Room Experience

The studio setup works really well — it’s compact but thoughtfully designed, with everything you actually need without feeling cramped. My room had this nice balance of modern touches and Belgian practicality. The bed was comfortable (which matters more than people think), and there’s decent storage space for a longer stay. What struck me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re still in the city. The windows face away from the main traffic, so you can actually sleep without earplugs — something I definitely can’t say about every Brussels hotel I’ve tried.

Getting Around

The metro connections from Koekelberg are actually pretty solid once you figure them out. Line 6 gets you to the center in about 15 minutes, and I found myself using the trams quite a bit too. There’s something nice about having that little commute into the tourist areas — it gives you time to transition between the “real” Brussels where you’re staying and the sightseeing version. Plus, you’ll save money on everything from coffee to dinner just by being slightly outside the main tourist zone.

  The studio was clean and we slept well. Although is very simple furnished, we had everything we need, including an iron and a hair dryer. The personal was very helpful and the check-in, check-out was very easy with no contact.

  Pese a no estar centrico, la estacion de metro y tren se encuentra a 5 min del apartamento. La zona es tranquila y agradable. El apartamento esta en limpio y dispone de todo lo que puedas necesitar.

  The property is very clean, welcoming and has everything needed for a city break for a great price. It is close to public transport making it an ideal location to move around Brussels. The location is also great as it is right beside a beautiful park. I would absolutely recommend this property.

  The room was big and had the things you needed. It was also clean.
  
  What could be improved: I was not sure how to get the heating working, I messaged the host but didn't hear anything back. I figured it out later but was not sure how to keep it on, seemed like it was on a timer, so I WAS OFTEN COLD. THIS IS PERTAINING TO THE BEDROOM, THE HEATER WAS FINE IN THE OTHER ROOMS (sorry accidentally left caps lock on).
  Some of the decor and parts of the property could do with a refurbishment as some things were dated. Overall it was still a good stay. The Basilica is also a 5-10 minute walk away, which was nice.

  Location good, lots of space, lots of light (tall windows), kitchenette basic but good for my use, place was clean, all windows could open (bonus), comfortable shower.
  
  What could be improved: Absolutely hated the electric "fragrance diffusor" : smell way too strong. Unplugged it, had to open windows for hours and still couldn't sleep (the curtains, the bed linen had the smell).
  No fire / escape instructions in the room.
  With this fixed, plus maybe a hairdryer, I'd rate 8/10.

  Decent, friendly, clean and warm apartment with enough equipment for two people in a very good location (a few steps through the park to the subway). The staircase also looks recently repainted.
  
  What could be improved: In the evenings and at night it was a bit noisy, probably due to the renovation of the floor above so it's probably a temporary inconvenience.
