The neighborhood has this perfect mix of historic charm and modern energy, and I noticed couples especially seem to love wandering these streets together. There’s something romantic about the cobblestones and the way the evening light hits the old buildings that makes you want to take your time exploring.

The rooms at Spirella are what I’d call thoughtfully designed — not huge, but every inch feels purposeful and comfortable. You’ll find modern amenities wrapped in a design that nods to Brussels’ architectural heritage without feeling stuffy or overdone. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are surprisingly well-appointed for a three-star hotel. What I appreciated most was the attention to lighting — there are actually enough outlets where you need them, and the blackout curtains work properly, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong.

Staying here puts you within easy reach of some of Brussels’ best-kept secrets. There’s this incredible chocolate shop just around the corner that locals actually frequent — not one of those tourist traps — and the morning market nearby is where you’ll find the freshest ingredients and the most authentic Belgian experience. The tram connections are excellent too, so you can easily explore other neighborhoods or catch a train to Bruges for a day trip. Honestly, the walkability factor alone makes this location worth considering.

  Nicely furnished, good location
  
  What could be improved: Toilet was not attached to the floor and a bit undone;
  Stars that lead to the room are very difficult to climb with baggage, so you need to keep that in mind if you are carring large suitcases

  What could be improved: There is no lift and the staircase is a very narrow spiral staircase – suitcases are impossible to bring up – we left them down in the kitchen . This is something that should be mentioned clearly in property description

  Clean rooms and a very friendly host. Accommodation was in a great location with shops, bars, restaurants and transport all really close by.

  Thé hôtel is very homey ambient, the owner is very kind and the services are fantastic !!!

  L’atelier de Hugo is extremely close to the train station and walking distance from Brussel-Midi. It’s also around 15 minutes on foot from the city center.
  The rooms were big, clean, beautiful, the host is kind, answered all my questions fast and did all he could to help us and make the stay enjoyable.
  
  What could be improved: The spiral staircase. It’s EXTREMELY narrow, high and it made it very difficult and uncomfortable to go up 2 floors with a small hand luggage.

  The property had character and was well located – just 2 mins to a lovely bistro, 5 mins to the local supermarket, 10-15 mins into the centre of Brussels. Hugo was on hand to answer any questions we had and very kindly offered the use of the downstairs facilities and to store our luggage before a late train home.
