Midi Retreat Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Midi Retreat on Rue Brogniez, you’d honestly never guess what awaits inside from the street view. This four-star gem sits quietly in Anderlecht, and I mean that in the best possible way — it’s like discovering a well-kept secret that locals have been hoarding. The entrance feels understated, almost residential, which actually makes the whole experience more intimate than those flashy hotel lobbies you see everywhere.

The Anderlecht Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in Anderlecht — you’re getting authentic Brussels without the tourist crowds trampling around your doorstep every morning. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll spot locals heading to work with their coffee, not tour groups following umbrella-wielding guides. You’re still incredibly well-connected to the city center (honestly, the transport links are better than some central hotels I’ve stayed at), but you get to experience Brussels like someone who actually lives here. Couples seem to really get this vibe — they’ve rated the location 8.4, and I can see why.

Your Home Base

The room I stayed in felt more like a thoughtfully designed apartment than a typical hotel space. There’s this attention to detail that you notice gradually — the way the lighting works, how everything has its place without feeling sterile. The beds are properly comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not doing some weird dance around your luggage. What struck me most was how quiet everything stays, even though you’re in a city — the soundproofing actually works.

The Neighborhood Experience

You know what’s great about this location? You can walk to proper local spots for dinner instead of ending up at those tourist traps near the Grand Place. There’s a fantastic little restaurant scene developing in this part of Brussels that feels genuine — places where the menu isn’t translated into six languages and the servers aren’t rolling their eyes at another tourist. The Midi area (hence the name, I assume) connects you beautifully to both the historic center and the more contemporary parts of the city. I found myself taking evening walks that felt like I was discovering Brussels rather than just checking it off a list.

Why Guests Love It

That perfect 10 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen — it reflects something real about how this place operates. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience without being overly intrusive about it. There’s secure parking if you’re driving, which honestly saves you a massive headache in Brussels. But mostly, it’s the feeling that you’ve found somewhere special that isn’t trying too hard to impress you. Midi Retreat delivers exactly what its name promises — a proper retreat that happens to be perfectly positioned for exploring one of Europe’s most underrated capitals.

Reviews of Midi Retreat

  • Perfect apartment for a city break, nicely priced, great hosts – Colm from United Kingdom – 12 July 2025 (10/10)

2nd floor apartment literally 5 minutes from MIDI (Zuid) – and 10 minute walk to Lidl, with pharmacies, bakeries, shops along the way. 30 minute walk to the historic centre (or walk to the station and thanks train, metro, tram, bus anywhere you like!)

Great hosts, everything perfect, instructions easy peasy, facilities great full kitchen with already coffee, spices, oil, everything you’d have at home – well not “everything” but better than usual. Dishwasher was a nice tough!

Also, cable tv, with modern service, great WiFi, Netflix, prime etc. everything you’d expect at home after a long day exploring the city

What could be improved: Only thing to mention is the litter and the bins on the streets of Brussels, that isn’t a problem either the apartment, it’s a long standing industrial dispute. Even that said though, things did get cleaned up with great effort
