Hotel The Neufchatel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel The Neufchatel on a quiet side street in Saint-Gilles, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places locals would recommend but tourists might stumble upon by accident. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — honestly, that’s refreshing in a city where so many hotels oversell themselves. The building has that classic Brussels charm, tucked away from the main tourist chaos but still incredibly well-connected to everything you’d want to see.
The Saint-Gilles Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Saint-Gilles — you’re in one of Brussels’ most authentic neighborhoods without sacrificing accessibility. This area has become increasingly popular with couples (they consistently rate the location around 8.6), and I can see why. You’ve got genuine local cafés within walking distance, plus you’re close enough to the city center that a quick tram ride gets you to Grand Place or the European Quarter. The hotel sits in what’s actually rated as the best area in Brussels for hotels, with a location score of 8.7 — and those numbers reflect real guest experiences, not marketing hype.
Sleep Quality That Actually Delivers
You know what’s rare? A hotel that’s genuinely known for comfortable beds rather than just claiming to have them. The beds here have earned a reputation among guests — I mean, people specifically mention the sleep quality in their reviews, which tells you something. After spending a night here, I get it. The room setup is straightforward but thoughtful, and there’s something to be said for a place that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than loading up on unnecessary extras.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast situation is solid — they offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to catch a morning train or planning to take your time. What struck me is how many repeat guests this place has compared to other properties in the area. That’s usually a good sign that they’re doing something right beyond just the first impression. The staff seems to recognize returning visitors, which creates a more personal atmosphere than you’d expect from a mid-range hotel.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t the kind of place that’ll wow you with flashy amenities or over-the-top service, but it delivers consistently on what matters most to travelers. The location puts you in the heart of an authentic Brussels neighborhood while keeping you connected to major attractions. The sleep quality is genuinely above average, and there’s something reassuring about staying somewhere that has built a loyal following through word-of-mouth rather than aggressive marketing. If you’re looking for a reliable base in Brussels that feels more like a local discovery than a tourist trap, Hotel The Neufchatel hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Carolyne from United Kingdom – 6 January 2025 (8/10)
Great shower with plenty of power and hot water. Super comfy beds with spotless bed linen, mattress and mattress topper. Much needed after a long day visiting the sites. Didn't use the breakfast facility as we prefer to eat out at local cafes and there is one just at the end of the road. Location was good and plenty of nice eateries in the surrounding area. Easy access to centre of Brussels via the tram 2 mins walk away. The hotel staff were really helpful and friendly. Overall the hotel was perfect for our needs.
Clark from United Kingdom – 14 December 2024 (7/10)
Was small a very friendly staff as our train was cancelled so they put the key in cabinet
It was ideal for my daughter and I ( who is an adult ) but the room would have been to small for 3 adults
Fairly easy to walk to Metro.
We didn’t have breakfast as thought it was included in the price
Beds very comfortable but a bit hot at night .
What could be improved: Breakfast should be included and extend the time to 10 -10 .30 am
For the English would be nice to have milk in the room rather than cream .Omer from Turkey – 5 December 2024 (7/10)
Clean and quite and good WiFi
What could be improved: Walking distance was not okey for me
