First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Fantastic Large House on avenue gisseleire versé, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But this four-star property in Sint-Agatha-Berchem really does live up to its straightforward moniker — it’s genuinely spacious and, well, fantastic in its own understated way. The building has this charming residential feel that makes you forget you’re staying at a hotel, which I mean, is exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience Brussels like a local rather than just another tourist.

Location & Getting Around

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? It’s in Sint-Agatha-Berchem, which gives you that authentic Brussels neighborhood vibe without the chaos of the city center. I found it’s actually perfectly positioned — close enough to hop on public transport and reach the Grand Place or Atomium easily, but far enough out that you can walk to a local bakery in the morning without fighting through crowds of other travelers. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Brussels to explore together.

The Space Itself

The room I stayed in was genuinely large (again, that name isn’t lying), with enough space to actually unpack and spread out — something you don’t always get in European city hotels. The layout feels more like staying in someone’s well-appointed home than a typical hotel setup. There’s this lived-in comfort that makes you want to linger over morning coffee instead of rushing out to tick off tourist boxes. The decor strikes that sweet spot between modern amenities and local character, though nothing too fancy or intimidating.

Neighborhood Discoveries

What I really loved was discovering the local rhythm of this area. There’s a proper Belgian restaurant just a few blocks away where locals actually eat — not the touristy places you’ll find near the Manneken Pis. The morning walks around here are lovely, especially if you’re into that slower pace of European neighborhood life. You’ll pass families heading to school, people chatting with shopkeepers they’ve known for years — it’s the Brussels that most visitors never see because they stick to the obvious spots.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests have been raving about the location, and I can see why — it’s got that “highly rated” status for good reason. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, not just checking you in and disappearing. Plus, there’s something to be said for a place that couples consistently choose for romantic getaways — it suggests the kind of peaceful, intimate atmosphere that’s hard to find in busier parts of the city.   We booked this house with a group of friends and really enjoyed staying there. It’s in a lovely neighbourhood and very close to the tram stop so it’s easy to get to the city centre or to a train station. There was a lot of space for all of us to hang out, we had our meals together at the big table, and overall just a very cozy atmosphere. It was sadly too cold to use the terrace but it looked nice too.
  The host, Thierry, was also very nice and helpful, answered all our questions and even gave us some recommendations.
  
  What could be improved: A few minor things: the lighting was a bit dim, I think some lightbulbs didn’t work, and it there weren’t any shower gel/ shampoo, so be prepared to take your own or buy it there. Also would be good to have some sugar in the kitchen 🙂
  And lastly, the floors are creaky, but I guess there isn’t much that could be done with that.

  Accès simple depuis l'autoroute. Parking idéal devant l'hébergement. Clefs très aisément récupérées. Maison sur plusieurs étages avec généreux séjour, salon et terrasse extérieure, 5 chambres autonomes et 2 salles d'eau et toilettes très appréciées. Équipements corrects. Rue très tranquille avec arrêt tram à moins de 5 min desservant le centre ville.
  
  What could be improved: Quelques ampoules ne fonctionnaient pas, escaliers escarpés + quelques coussins et autres rideaux mériteraient un petit passage à la machine à laver, sinon rien à signaler.
