Smart Appart – City Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Smart Appart – City on Rue des Commerçants, you immediately get that “I’m in the thick of things” feeling. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Brussels — and I mean actually in the center, not one of those “city center adjacent” places that requires a 20-minute tram ride to get anywhere interesting. The building has that classic Brussels charm without being overly fancy, which honestly feels just right for what it is.

The Apartment Setup

Here’s what I really appreciated — each apartment comes with its own kitchenette, which is a game-changer when you’re staying more than a night or two. You know what’s great about having your own space? You can grab fresh bread from one of the nearby bakeries (there are several within a two-minute walk) and actually enjoy breakfast at your own pace. The room layouts are smart — hence the name, I suppose — with everything you need without feeling cramped.

Location Perks

The location feedback mentions couples love this place, and I can see why. You’re literally steps away from Grand Place, which means you can duck back to your apartment between sightseeing without it being a whole production. The Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert are around the corner — perfect for rainy Brussels afternoons when you want to browse shops or grab a coffee. What’s really convenient is that you can walk to most of the major attractions, but you’re also close enough to Central Station that day trips to other Belgian cities are totally doable.

Practical Considerations

The 7.4 rating feels about right for what you get here. It’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities, but everything works well and the staff knows what they’re doing. Parking in this part of Brussels can be tricky — honestly, I’d recommend using public transport or walking since you’re so centrally located anyway. The apartments are clean and functional, with decent Wi-Fi and all the basics you’d expect. The kitchenette setup means you can save money on meals, which is smart since Brussels isn’t exactly cheap when it comes to dining out every night.

Why Guests Love It

What really makes Smart Appart – City work is that it gives you the independence of having your own space while keeping you right where you want to be in Brussels. You’re not dealing with hotel breakfast schedules or worrying about getting back before the restaurant closes. Instead, you can explore the city at your own rhythm, pop back when you need a break, and feel like you’re actually living in Brussels rather than just passing through. For couples especially, having that bit of extra space and privacy makes a real difference — you can spread out, plan your days over coffee in your own kitchen, and just relax without feeling like you’re on top of each other in a tiny hotel room.

Reviews of Smart Appart – City

  • Ahnjili from Netherlands – 27 May 2025 (6/10)

Location is convenient. Beds were comfortable. Quick responses from the staff

What could be improved: I had high hopes for this hotel based on the location and amenities, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing due to the surrounding environment. Throughout our stay, there were individuals—many of whom appeared to be sex workers—consistently gathered and smoking right outside the entrance.

What made things worse was the noise at night—people yelling and arguing well into the early hours made it difficult to sleep. The area didn’t feel safe, especially when returning late; we were approached multiple times by individuals soliciting services, which was very uncomfortable and concerning.

The hotel itself was decent, but the external environment significantly affected the overall sense of safety and comfort. I would not recommend this place for families or solo travelers, especially those unfamiliar with the area. A bit more security presence or management attention to the immediate surroundings would go a long way in improving the guest experience.

Also the staircase constantly smelled like mold and cigarettes

  • Duong from Netherlands – 4 December 2024 (7/10)

The apartment is centrally located in Brussels with great connections to all public transport services. Inside the apartment, all facilities are available and easy-to-use, comfortable bedding and amenities compliments our stay. There are 2 separate showers & toilets so you never have to wait for too long for your turn 😉 The host also very friendly and proactively communicates with us.

What could be improved: The street in front of the apartment fills up with pick-me-up girls at night and all kind of shady business happening around, so we didn't feel very secure even with the doors locked. Nevertheless, no incidents happen during our trip. The basement really needs better ventilation as you can smell the mold and other odors from the street distinctively in the morning. Upstairs bathroom needs a door to prevent water going outside of shower area.

  • Roderick from New Zealand – 3 November 2024 (8/10)

Location of the property is really close to the places we went

What could be improved: there were people loitered in the main door entrance every time we come in or out

  • David from United Kingdom – 27 September 2024 (8/10)

    very clean

  • Jana from United Kingdom – 5 September 2024 (7/10)

Very nice flat! Close to the city centre and transport and shops

What could be improved: Ppl (prostitutes)sitting outside the flat on the stairs and smoking in your windows. A street a bit rough

  • Thibaud from United Kingdom – 16 July 2024 (7/10)

Clean and comfortable, functional kitchen. Secure check-in. Close to the Nord station.

What could be improved: Three hookers were constantly in front of the place (as well as others nearby).
The toilet was leaking at times..

  • Perry from Portugal – 14 July 2024 (8/10)

    The location and cleanliness

What could be improved: No local channels on the tv

  • Liedewei from Belgium – 2 July 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: There's a feeling of insecurity since there are escortes always camping out on the doorstep. We suspected they had the wifi password and that's why they were there.

  • Marta from Spain – 25 May 2024 (8/10)

Very big and nice, a good option for 6 people. Close to the station.

  • Kelly from United States – 29 April 2024 (8/10)

The street had sketchy people outside and there wasn't anywhere to park. But great location, walking distance to everything. Comfortable beds and everything you needed to shower and cook if needed. Bottle water in the fridge was a lifesaver.

What could be improved: The set up of the place wasn’t how I expected from the pictures posted, but for one night was perfect for our family to get sleep after being up for 36 hours from our flight.
