Walking up to Peaceful retreat on Rue de Flandre, you’d honestly never guess what a gem you’re about to discover. The building itself blends right into the Brussels streetscape — no flashy signage or grand entrance — but that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star property feels more like stumbling upon a well-kept local secret than checking into a typical tourist hotel. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that makes the name make perfect sense.

Here’s the thing about staying in central Brussels — you’re either dealing with tourist chaos or you’re tucked away somewhere inconvenient. Peaceful retreat somehow manages to avoid both traps. You’re literally in the heart of everything (they’ve got a 9.5 location score, which honestly doesn’t surprise me), but Rue de Flandre has this quieter, more residential feel that locals seem to prefer. I mean, you can walk to Grand Place in about ten minutes, but you’re not hearing street performers until 2 AM. The couples who stay here clearly get it — there’s something romantic about having the city right there but still feeling like you’ve escaped it.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was… well, it wasn’t going to win any design awards, but it had everything you actually need. Clean, comfortable bed, decent-sized windows that let in plenty of light, and — this matters more than you’d think — really good blackout curtains for sleeping in. The bathroom was compact but functional, with water pressure that actually worked. You know what struck me most? The attention to small details, like having enough outlets near the bed and a mirror positioned where you can actually use it.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this nice, unhurried pace. The breakfast setup is simple but covers the basics — fresh bread, decent coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying several days. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stayed, even when the hotel was clearly full. The staff moves around efficiently without that rushed hotel energy that can make you feel like you’re in the way. There’s also a small seating area near the entrance where you can plan your day or just watch Brussels wake up through the windows.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Peaceful retreat isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The 7.5 rating feels about right — it’s solidly good without any major surprises, positive or negative. Couples keep coming back because it strikes that perfect balance between being central enough to explore easily but peaceful enough to actually relax together. You’re paying for location and comfort, not fancy amenities, and honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a Brussels stay.

  What could be improved: Appartamento al secondo piano senza ascensore. La scale era stretta e scivolosa. Abbiamo scelto l'appartamento mettendo il filtro "2 camere e 2 bagni" ma l'appartamento ha solo 1 WC in una stanzetta piccola con porta senza serratura non garantendo alcuna privacy. C'erano poi due camere ( 1 con doccia ed 1 con vasca ) senza WC ed anche queste camere erano sprovviste di porta con serratura.
  Condizioni dell'appartamento scadenti, La lavastoviglie puzzava e la macchina per il caffè era incrostata con all'interno un liquido giallognolo ( probabilmente neanche funzionante).
  Abbiamo contattato BOOKING via telefono e l'host via messaggio sulla app per far notare la mancanza del servizi richiesti ( 2 bagni). BOOKING ha detto che doveva risolvere il problema l'host. L'host ha risposto dopo ore, solo dopo vari tentativi di contatto da parte di BOOKING, e non ha voluto in nessun caso ovviare al problema per cui alle ore 22 siamo andati in albergo lasciando la casa intatta come l'abbiamo trovata.
  L'host non ha rimesso in vendita le stanze ( a differenza di ciò che aveva inizialmente detto a BOOKING ) e si è rifiutato di restituirci la quota pagata. Neanche una piccola quota simbolica prevista per le pulizie!!!
  In tutto ciò l'host non si è mai visto nonostante fossimo in casa ad attenderlo. In seguito abbiamo fatto chiamare da un amico che parla francese e ha risposto una signora che è stata molto maleducata.

  La ubicación es céntrica, esta toda la diversión cerca, no tienes que recorrer grandes distancias para disfrutar de todo tipo de maravillosos lugares, cercana a estación de metro, departamento amplio y con todas sus comodidades, cocina completa con todos los implementos necesarios para disfrutar tus comidas. Hay juegos de toallas completos. Calefacción.
  Hay jabón, lava loza, papel higiénico, en resumen es llegar y disfrutar, sin tener que preocuparse de esos detalles, que a la hora llegar se agradecen. Cuenta con 2 habitaciones, 1 matrimonial amplia, la otra habitación pequeña con camarote.
  
  What could be improved: Cortinas del sector del living se encuentran deteriorado (no cierran del todo), a los que les gusta la privacidad quizás sea incomodo. No tiene ascensor, por lo que resulta incomodo subir las escaleras con las maletas hasta la tercera planta (el piso 0 es para algunos el 1).

  Uitstekend appartement voor ons reisgezelschap (moeder met 2 tienerdochters). Instructies voor in- en uitchecken waren heel duidelijk. Je hebt het appartement voor jezelf. Sleutel in sleutelkastje. Contact met de verhuurder verloopt via mail en er wordt snel gereageerd op vragen (bijvoorbeeld over de wifi 😉
  Grote slaapkamer met groot en zacht bed en schoon beddengoed. Hier ruimte genoeg voor alle koffers met kleding. Kleine slaapkamer met stapelbed voor de dochters. Die kamer was wat krap, maar doordat andere slaapkamer en de leefruimte in het appartement (keuken, eettafel, zithoek) groot is, compenseert dit. Twee badkamers aanwezig. In de grote badkamer alleen de wastafel gebruikt, niet het bad (was ook niet helemaal schoon). De badkamer grenzend aan de grote slaapkamer is heel functioneel, met wastafel en een douchehoek. Keuken is functioneel ingericht en alles is aanwezig: gasfornuis, oven, vaatwasser, waterkoker, koelkast en diversen kookgerei en servies. In dit appartement is ook aan jongere kinderen gedacht. Er is speelgoed, twee kleine kleuterstoeltjes en een verhoogde stoel bij de ronde eettafel.
  De zithoek bevat nogal uitgezakte stoelen/banken, maar om 's avonds even te zitten lezen ruim voldoende. Je bent ook in Brussel om wat van de stad te zien en niet alleen maar in het appartement te zijn, toch?
  En de centrale ligging nabij het St. Kathelijneplein en op loopafstand van de Beurs en de Grote Markt is fantastisch. Ook het station Brussel Centraal is slechts een kwartier lopen.
  Kortom, voor ons een prima uitvalsbasis voor onze 4 dagen/3 nachten Brussel in de meivakantie. Een aanrader voor maximaal 4 personen (ouders met 2 kinderen)!
  
  What could be improved: De slaapkamer met stapelbed is wat krap. De fauteuils/bank in de woonkamer zijn wat uitgezakt en ook de extra bank die er staat zit niet lekker. Bad was niet schoon, terwijl de hygiëne in de rest van het appartement prima is.

  What could be improved: Lo stabile è vecchio e mal tenuto/ letti comodi ma cuscini inconsistenti, troppa luce durante la notte, non si riesce ad oscurare adeguatamente. Continuati rumori notturni provenienti dal solaio che lasciavano pensare a topi o piccioni intrappolati in una possibile soffitta…(?)

  L appartement est très bien placé, proche de la place Ste Catherine et d'une station de métro, et à 10 minutes à pieds de la Grand Place. De nombreux bars et restaurants à proximité.
  L appartement est très agréable, bien agencé et bien équipé, au calme et sécurisé.
  Petit plus : le sèche serviette dans la salle d' eau et un chauffage d'appoint mobile.
  Quelques produits d entretien à disposition.
  Le propriétaire était réactif.
  Nous aurions apprécié un peu plus d éclairage dans les chambres et le séjour et éventuellement un four micro ondes.

  Posizione ottima a pochissimi minuti a piedi da piazze, locali e stazione metro.
  
  What could be improved: Una delle due camere è piccolissima ed ha i letti a castello (cosa non specificata nella descrizione). Nella zona giorno ci sono divani, poltrone e tappeti che non sembrano molto puliti. Lo stesso dicasi per i piccoli elettrodomestici presenti in cucina (tostapane, bollitore e macchina per il caffè). L'ingresso dello stabile è trasandato e sporco. Il vano scale aveva una sola lampada su tre che funzionava. L'abbiamo segnalato ma non c'è stata alcuna risposta. L'aspetto della vasca da bagno non è dei migliori.

  El apartamento tiene una ubicación perfecta, en una calle muy animada, cerca de todos los puntos de interés. Desde el apartamento casi no se escucha la calle. El apartamento es amplio y tiene mucha luz, tiene dos zonas para bañarse, una ducha (que no tiene puerta!) un cuarto con bañera y un cuarto pequeñito con un váter que está separado. Las camas son cómodas. Antes de entrar nos pidieron hacer un depósito por una plataforma online, creo que esto es importante saberlo antes. Y también al finalizar la estancia, que saquemos la basura, que entiendo que debería ser un servicio incluido, no que lo tenga que hacer el huésped. Pero en general, pasamos una buena estancia.
  
  What could be improved: La entrada y las zonas comunes se ven viejas y abandonadas. Aunque cuando subes a las segunda planta, todo mejora.
  Realmente tiene dos zonas para bañarse, pero una ducha que no tiene puerta y un WC.

  La ubicación es perfecta. La gestión de la entrada y salida y la comunicación de la información. Las camas son muy cómodas.
  
  What could be improved: No había toallas suficientes para todos. Necesitaría mejorar un poco en limpieza. Y algún detalle como unas capsulas de café, serían de agradecer.
