Maison d’hôtes de Xavier Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Maison d’hôtes de Xavier on Avenue Brugmann, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Brussels hotel. The three-star guesthouse sits in one of those elegant townhouses that makes Uccle feel more like a sophisticated neighborhood than just another part of the city. There’s something refreshingly personal about the whole setup — you know from the moment you arrive that someone actually cares about this place, rather than it being run by some faceless hotel chain.
The Uccle Advantage
Honestly, the location here is brilliant, and I can see why couples rate it so highly (8.7 out of 10, which is pretty impressive). Uccle is one of those Brussels communes that locals love but tourists often overlook — it’s got this refined, residential feel without being stuffy. Avenue Brugmann itself is lined with interesting shops and cafes, and you’re actually well-positioned to explore both the quieter side of Brussels and hop into the city center when you want the full tourist experience. The tram connections are solid, which means you’re not stuck out in the suburbs despite the peaceful atmosphere.
The Guesthouse Experience
What I really appreciate about Maison d’hôtes de Xavier is how it strikes that balance between intimate and professional. The rooms have character — you know, the kind of thoughtful touches that make you feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than a generic hotel box. The three-star rating feels accurate; it’s comfortable and well-maintained without trying to be something it’s not. You’ll find everything you need without unnecessary frills, and there’s a warmth to the service that’s genuinely Belgian rather than that polished-but-cold hospitality you sometimes get in bigger hotels.
Neighborhood Gems
One thing that really works in this location’s favor is how walkable everything is around here. There are some excellent local restaurants within a few blocks — the kind of places where you’ll actually hear French and Flemish at neighboring tables rather than just tourist chatter. The nearby Bois de la Cambre is perfect for morning walks, and if you’re into antiques or just browsing, the weekend markets in the area are worth planning around. It’s the sort of neighborhood where you can grab fresh bread from a proper bakery and actually feel like you’re experiencing Brussels rather than just visiting it.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.3 overall rating makes sense when you spend time here — it’s that rare combination of good value, genuine character, and a location that works for different types of travelers. Couples clearly get it (hence that 8.7 location score), but I think anyone who wants to experience Brussels from a more local perspective would appreciate what Xavier has created here. You’re getting authentic Belgian hospitality in a neighborhood that feels real, with easy access to both the peaceful, upscale side of Brussels and the bustling city center when you’re ready for museums and tourist sites.
Hotels in Brussels dot the gilded Grand Place, the glass-roofed Royal Galleries, and the chic Sablon antiques quarter.

La tranquillité
What could be improved: On ne voyait personne, un peu anonymeCarii26 from Austria – 29 May 2025 (8/10)
Jones from United States – 21 May 2025 (4/10)
The neighborhood was quiet and close to tram
What could be improved: 1. The room was not on the second floor as stated in the email sent. Had I know that the room was in fact on the third floor and up four flights of stairs, I would not have booked. We are traveling with large suitcases as this was just an overnight stop at the end of a very long trip.
2. The instructions stated that the room number was on the door, it was quite confusing to eventually find the room number was only written on the key ring.
3. The sheets, pillows and bath towels all smelled of mildew and towels were very scratchy. No wash clothes provided or hand towels to dry hands after washing hands.
Overall, had it not been so late in the day and had we not been only staying one night? We would not have stayed. Especially since when I rang the number provided, no one answered so even if I had been able to leave, there was no one to notify.Ian from United Kingdom – 13 May 2025 (7/10)
Spectacular room in a spectacular building. So easy to get to on the tram with all the local shops & bars in easy walking distance
What could be improved: Storage space was sadly lacking to unpack our travel bags. A small stylish shelving unit in the bathroom would be great for putting wash kits/ make up on. Ditch the futon which is far too low for most people & replace it with a small sofa at the foot of the bed. Then use the space to give a larger kitchen unit. The current space is far too small & crowded. A dustpan, washing up bowl & some kitchen towel for cleaning up spillages would also be useful.Julia from United Kingdom – 8 May 2025 (9/10)
The size of the room.
What could be improved: The front door that was impossible to close quietlyPetra from Czech Republic – 8 May 2025 (9/10)
The building and rooms are very clean and beautiful, the area is safe and quiet and well connected by trams to Brussels centre. Plus we were given plenty of information by Xavier about the city.
