La Calamande En Ville Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to La Calamande En Ville on Rue d’Ecosse, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked into this charming street in Brussels that feels more residential than touristy. The building itself has that classic Belgian townhouse character, and honestly, I almost walked past it the first time because it blends so naturally into the neighborhood. This four-star property doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually love — it feels like you’re staying somewhere locals would recommend rather than a typical hotel strip.

The Saint-Gilles Advantage

Here’s what I really appreciate about the location — you’re in Saint-Gilles, which means you get authentic Brussels without the tourist crowds of Grand Place. The area has this great mix of art nouveau architecture and trendy cafés, plus you’re walking distance to both the city center and some genuinely cool neighborhoods. I mean, couples are rating this spot 9.4 out of 10, and after spending time here, I get why. You can actually stroll to Place Eugène Flagey for evening drinks or catch the tram into the historic center in about fifteen minutes.

Your Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and Belgian charm — think clean lines but with character details that remind you where you are. What struck me most was how quiet everything felt, despite being in the city. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-speak comfortable), and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in. You know what’s nice? The windows are large enough that you get proper natural light, which makes such a difference when you’re trying to shake off jet lag.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is one of those pleasant surprises — they do continental and buffet options, but they also offer breakfast to go if you’re the type who likes to grab something and explore early. The quality is solid without being fancy, and I appreciated having real options rather than just pastries and coffee. Actually, the coffee itself is quite good, which isn’t always a given at hotels. If you’re planning day trips or have early meetings, that grab-and-go option is honestly pretty thoughtful.

Why Guests Love It

Look, the 9.2 rating isn’t just numbers — this place works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard. There’s parking available on-site, which anyone who’s driven in Brussels will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood and can point you toward places that aren’t in every guidebook. Plus, you’re getting that excellent location score of 9.5 because you really are in one of Brussels’ best-positioned spots — close enough to everything important but far enough from the chaos to actually relax. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because it just feels right.

The apartment is stunning, very comfortable, clean, and in a great location. Steve, the owner, was super helpful. I’ll definitely stay again when back in Brussels 🙂

  • Sarah from United States – 1 April 2025 (8/10)

Steve was a fantastic host, he made us feel at home.

  • Gabriela from Romania – 19 February 2025 (10/10)

We had a fantastic stay in Belgium, and our host, Steve, made it even better! He was incredibly helpful, even arranging a taxi for us to get to the airport, which we truly appreciated. The room was spotless, quiet, and part of a lovely family-run property, making us feel right at home. The location was also perfect, just a short walk from the metro station, which made getting around very convenient. Highly recommend staying here—thank you, Steve, for your hospitality

  • Bhavan from United Kingdom – 13 February 2025 (9/10)

Suite Keith was beautifully decorated, very spacious, and comfortable. Steve also communicated very well and it was a pleasant stay (although we spent most of it outside!). The spa bath was strong and good. Access to the fridge water was very useful too.

What could be improved: The spa bath cleaned itself overnight and woke us up once! But that stopped.

  • Helen from United Kingdom – 19 December 2024 (10/10)

Paul was such an amazing host, made us feel very welcome, made sure we had good instructions on how to find it, gave us local recommendations and even walked to the train station to show us how the tickets worked, recommended and booked us a restaurant for dinner! He certainly went above and beyond expectations!

What could be improved: Nothing, it was perfect.
