First Impressions

Walking up to the second floor of this converted industrial building on Quai des Usines, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from Highgarden – warm & cozy. The name pretty much delivers on its promise though — this four-star apartment-style hotel feels more like staying at a friend’s incredibly well-appointed place than a typical Brussels hotel. There’s something immediately welcoming about the setup that makes you want to kick off your shoes and settle in for more than just a night or two.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about this spot? It’s in one of those Brussels neighborhoods that feels authentically local without being touristy, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The Quai des Usines area has this nice industrial-chic vibe — old warehouses turned into lofts and creative spaces. I mean, you can walk to the city center in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also right by the canal where locals actually jog and walk their dogs. Plus, and this is huge for Brussels, there’s free private parking on site. Anyone who’s tried to park in this city knows that’s basically like finding gold.

The Space

The apartment itself really lives up to that “warm & cozy” part of the name. It’s got this perfect balance of being upscale without feeling stuffy — think exposed brick mixed with modern furnishings and just the right amount of plants to make it feel homey. The kitchen is actually functional (not one of those hotel kitchenettes that’s basically for show), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without tripping over each other. Couples seem to absolutely love this place, and I can see why — it’s intimate without being cramped, and there’s something romantic about having your own little Brussels pied-à-terre for a few days.

Practical Perks

What really impressed me was how well thought out everything is for actual travelers. The wifi works perfectly (I tested it extensively, obviously), and the apartment comes stocked with those little things you always forget — good coffee, basic toiletries, even some local recommendations written out by hand. The hosts clearly know what they’re doing because recent guests have been rating the location a 9.6 out of 10, which is pretty remarkable for any city, let alone Brussels where location can make or break your experience.
