Fontainas Apartments Overview

First Impressions

When I first walked up to Fontainas Apartments on Rue des Vierges, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the unassuming entrance. But you know what? Sometimes the best places in Brussels are the ones that don’t need to shout about themselves. This four-star property sits right in the heart of the city, and I mean really in the heart — you’re literally surrounded by everything that makes Brussels special.

Location That Actually Matters

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places that claim to be “centrally located,” but Fontainas is the real deal. You’re a two-minute walk from the Grand Place (seriously, I timed it), and the Manneken Pis is practically around the corner. What I really loved though was how easy it was to slip into local life — there’s this amazing little chocolate shop just down the street that most tourists never find. The couples staying here seem to get it too, rating the location 8.7 out of 10, and honestly, I can see why. You can walk everywhere, but if you need public transport, the metro connections are right there.

The Apartment Experience

Each apartment here feels like you’re borrowing a friend’s place rather than staying in a hotel — and I mean that in the best way possible. The spaces are thoughtfully designed with that European efficiency that actually works. My unit had a proper kitchen setup, which was perfect for those mornings when I wanted to grab fresh bread from the local bakery and make coffee without rushing downstairs. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between modern comfort and local character, though don’t expect flashy amenities — this is more about authentic Brussels living.

Daily Rhythms

What struck me most was how naturally you fall into the rhythm of the neighborhood. Mornings start with the sounds of the city waking up — delivery trucks, café owners setting up their terraces, locals heading to work. The building itself is quiet enough that you actually get decent sleep, which isn’t always guaranteed in city center locations. I found myself using the apartment as a proper base, coming back between exploring sessions to regroup and plan the next adventure. There’s something refreshing about having your own space to decompress after wandering through the tourist crowds at the Grand Place.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been here — it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Brussels, but it nails what most travelers actually want. You get independence, authentic location, and enough comfort to feel at home. The fact that couples rate it so highly tells you something about the romantic potential of the neighborhood too. Those evening walks through the narrow streets, discovering hidden bars and local restaurants, become part of the experience rather than a trek from some distant hotel district. If you want to feel like you’re living in Brussels rather than just visiting it, this place delivers on that promise.

Brussels hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Grand Place area to elegant converted townhouses and modern business accommodations in the European Quarter.

Reviews of Fontainas Apartments

  • Josephine from Singapore – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

Spacious apartment and well equipped kitchen. The apartment is as per what was shown in the booking site.
Owner was very responsive to our queries.

  • Michelle from Australia – 8 May 2025 (7/10)

The apartment itself was impressive and comfortable. Once oriented to the area not to far to bustling areas.

What could be improved: The stairs were a task with a suitcase and the front facade and surrounding buildings are downmarket. Can hear what’s happening in the next apartment.

  • Milla from Finland – 8 March 2025 (9/10)

A lovely apartment on a quiet street close to everything.

What could be improved: Sheet had stains on them. Someone kept on slamming doors and running on the stairs every morning at 6 am so that the floors shook and the whole building woke up.

  • Alice from United Kingdom – 10 February 2025 (7/10)

Great location, free coffee and Netflix, nice bathroom, clear and easy instructions, very clean.

What could be improved: It was not made clear that the second bedroom was down the hall and that bedroom does not have a bathroom so the person staying there must come across the hall to the main apartment to use any facility. They have to put a long code in the door to get in so it’s not a very quick process either.

It was also very cold on the first night and it took hours for the apartment to heat up.

  • Rhianna from United Kingdom – 10 February 2025 (8/10)

Location was really central, property was immaculate, great facilities & well equipped with amenities

What could be improved: Room was booked for a group of 4 (which was an option when booking) however, the room was only equipped for 3 people i.e. 3 mugs, 3 glasses etc. We also had none of the coffee pods for the machine which was listed in the amenities. It was also unclear that the apartment was actually split into 2, with the second bedroom being back down the stairs across the hall – this meant our group was split which we weren’t aware of until check in details were sent through to us.

  • Isis from Spain – 19 December 2024 (8/10)

The apartment is cozy and new.

What could be improved: The heating didn't work and wasn't fixed while we were there

  • Anna from United Kingdom – 17 December 2024 (9/10)

clean, quiet, equipped with all we needed.

What could be improved: the water pressure was low, so a shower took a little while, but not impossibl.e

  • Michael from Canada – 24 October 2024 (9/10)

The location and quiet neighborhood was very good. We also appreciated the large amount of coffee and amenities.

What could be improved: The bed could have been a little larger, and maybe a bit more storage for clothing. Apart from that, the Internet was a bit spotty.

  • Daniel from United Kingdom – 4 October 2024 (9/10)

Very comfy bed, nice and clean, great location.

What could be improved: The door was a little difficult to operate and shower wasn't great.

  • Glen from Canada – 30 September 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: No elevator. Had to climb 3 flights of stairs.
