Cozy South-Up and Ground Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Cozy South-Up and Ground, you immediately get the sense that this four-star Brussels hotel takes its name seriously — there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that feels refreshingly unpretentious. The building sits quietly on Rue de Serbie in Saint-Gilles, and honestly, I was surprised by how much character this neighborhood has once you start exploring it. The entrance has this understated elegance that hints at what’s inside without trying too hard to impress.

Location & Neighborhood

Saint-Gilles is one of those Brussels districts that locals love but tourists often overlook — which actually works in your favor here. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the Grand Place, but the real charm is what’s right around the corner. There are these fantastic little cafés and bistros scattered throughout the area, and I mean the kind where you’ll hear more French and Flemish than English. The couples who stay here clearly get it — they’ve rated the location 8.5 for romantic getaways, and I can see why. It feels like you’re experiencing the real Brussels rather than just the postcard version.

The Rooms

The accommodations at Cozy South-Up and Ground strike that perfect balance between comfort and style without feeling overly designed. My room had these lovely high ceilings that you find in older Brussels buildings, but the furnishings were refreshingly modern and functional. The bed was genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the bathroom was well-appointed with good water pressure (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in European hotels). What I appreciated most was the attention to lighting; there were actually enough outlets and the reading lights worked properly, which sounds basic but makes such a difference.

Service & Atmosphere

The staff here seems to understand that good hospitality doesn’t mean hovering — they’re helpful when you need them but give you space to settle in. I noticed they’re particularly good with local recommendations, and not just the obvious tourist spots either. The common areas have this relaxed, upscale vibe that encourages you to linger over coffee or a drink. There’s something about the way they’ve designed the spaces that feels both refined and approachable, which honestly reflects the Saint-Gilles neighborhood perfectly.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.3 rating, Cozy South-Up and Ground clearly resonates with travelers who want more than just a place to sleep. I think it’s because the hotel delivers on its promise of being genuinely cozy while maintaining high standards — you get that boutique hotel experience without the boutique hotel pretension. The location works brilliantly if you want to feel like you’re staying in a real Brussels neighborhood while still having easy access to the city center. Plus, there’s something satisfying about discovering a place that feels like your own little secret in the city, even though the quality rivals anything you’d find in the more touristy areas.

To book hotel in Brussels for the biennial flower-carpet season, travelers reserve early to pair early Grand Place strolls with late evenings over Belgian beer.

  • Claudia from Austria – 30 May 2025 (9/10)

Since I was in town earlier than the agreed check in time, i chanced to ask if it might be possible to check in to the room earlier, and the room was really already finished and i was able to drop off my stuff and enjoy the afternoon in brussels . thanks again! the location is very close to the main train station (brussels zuid/midi) so thats perfect if you want to go on day trips like i did. its also still very walkable to the city centre.

  • Yi-ru from Singapore – 26 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything was thoroughly laid out and decorated. We had everything we needed, including heater, kitchenware, streaming apps like Netflix/Disney+/YouTube.

What could be improved: If I had to name one, it would be the stairs… It’s on 4th floor, and we carried our luggage all the way up, lol

  • Aleksandar from Bulgaria – 6 April 2025 (10/10)

The flat is very clean and perfectly equipped. In. Walkable distance from city centre.

  • Kb from United States – 6 April 2025 (8/10)

The apartment is bright and cheerful with high ceilings, but excellent darkout shades for sleeping. The bed was very comfortable and the temperature was easy to adjust. Excellent modern appliances and easy to operate.

What could be improved: The only real negative was the shower water, which took a long time to heat up and then ran out fairly quickly.

  • Leanne from Australia – 21 December 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was absolutely flawless! Warm, cozy and spacious. Great location, bus stops to get in and out of town was great, some fabulous little local cafes/bakeries within walking distance.
Also, the hosts were amazing, responded quickly with communications.
We highly recommend this fabulous little apartment 💜

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing!

  • George from Romania – 7 December 2024 (10/10)

The place was clean, cozy and warm. It is well equipped with all that you'd need during your stay. We were able to walk to most of the city attractions. Also, the host was nice, we had an easy check in and check out process.

What could be improved: It didn't bother us, but you should know that there is no elevator and the stairs are a bit narrow.

  • Monica from Romania – 19 November 2024 (10/10)

Very clean, comfortable, conveniently situated. Recommnded.
