Citadines Toison d’Or Brussels Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Citadines Toison d’Or Brussels, you immediately get that “this is exactly what I needed” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just solid, comfortable, and honestly pretty smart about what travelers actually want. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, and the staff genuinely seems happy to see you, which I mean, isn’t always a given in Brussels.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about the location — it’s on Avenue de la Toison d’or, which sounds fancy but is actually just perfectly positioned for getting around. You’re in Saint-Gilles, which locals know is where you want to be if you don’t want to deal with tourist crowds but still want easy access to everything. The metro connections are solid, and honestly, you can walk to most of the stuff you’ll want to see. I noticed couples seem to really love this area, and after spending time here, I get why — there’s something romantic about the tree-lined streets without all the chaos.
The Apartment-Style Setup
What sets this place apart is the apartment concept — you’re not just getting a room, you’re getting actual living space. Each unit has a proper kitchenette (not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation), which is honestly a game-changer when you want to grab some Belgian cheese and bread from the local market. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with that European efficiency thing down pat — everything has its place, and somehow it doesn’t feel cramped.
Breakfast and Daily Rhythms
The breakfast setup is continental and buffet style, which works well because you can actually fuel up properly before heading out. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety to keep you happy for a week-long stay. What I really appreciated was how they handle the repeat guest thing — and there are a lot of them here, which tells you something. The staff starts remembering your coffee preferences, and there’s parking on site if you’re brave enough to drive in Brussels (though honestly, you probably don’t need to).
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes this place work? It’s that sweet spot between hotel service and apartment independence. The location score speaks for itself — 8.9 is pretty impressive for any city, let alone Brussels where good positioning can make or break your trip. People keep coming back because it just makes sense — you get the space to spread out, the freedom to eat in when you want, and you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the touristy bits and the real Brussels that locals actually enjoy. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails the fundamentals in a way that makes your trip better.
Brussels hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Grand Place area to elegant converted townhouses and modern business accommodations in the European Quarter.

Good location, minimarket, restaurants and metro (Luise) within 3 mins walk. Coffe and tea free of charge 24/7 at reception, free luggage storage
Robert from Canada – 17 May 2025 (7/10)
Centrally located . Very , very close to central Ghent. Clean comfortable. Check in was very easy, even had a video.
What could be improved: Stairs up through coffee shop could cause people with physical limitations problems.
Entry through a coffee shop , odd but doable.Erlina from Indonesia – 11 May 2025 (9/10)
The location and the room
What could be improved: NothingDiana from Romania – 1 May 2025 (8/10)
Great value for money, pet friendly and the private parking option is great, since it's very difficult and expensive to park in the area. Very clean, comfortable rooms, with sizes larger than you find in other spaces in Brussels. Pet tax was 15 eur/day and underground parking 20 eur/day.
Very good option for long stays, at ~76eur/day for stays over a month in the smaller studio apartment, and I think parking for a month was about 180 eur/month, which is a super good offer. Unfortunately there is no reduction on the pet tax, it's 15 per day regardless of the period.
Good grocery stores, restaurants and easy access to public transport – very well positioned!
Would for sure book again!
What could be improved: The rooms and hallways are rather worn down due to intense usage – they could really use an update.Lewis from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
All very good – good location, 2-3 stops from Gare du midi, and only a couple of minutes from the nearest metro station. The room is a good size, clean, well equipped, wiht a decent kitchenette, good sized desk for working, etc. Good supermarket just round the corner. The staff were super helpful when I asked if they could make a phone call for me (in French) to book something.
What could be improved: Nothing specfic – everything was very good.Madalina from Romania – 15 April 2025 (8/10)
Clean room, friendly personal, free coffee
What could be improved: I stayed at this hotel recently and while the room was clean and the staff was friendly, my experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the constant noise from maintenance and construction happening just outside. It started early in the morning and continued throughout the day, making it hard to relax or get any rest.Adam from United Kingdom – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
To me the hotel and room were exactly as advertised and were a good price for it. The room was a decent size, furniture (bed and 2 chairs) was comfortable. There was a little bit of dust in corners and small marks on the walls, but no health concerns and otherwise it was clean.
The cooking facilities (frying pans, saucepan, colander, electric hobs, microwave, dishwasher) worked great and were very useful.
There is a food shop very nearby, and cafes a road away. There are fantastic views of Brussels a few minutes walk away, and the city centre is about 15-20 minutes walk.
There is noise from the main road outside, however closing the vents above the windows helps hugely with this (I would have liked to have known this at the start).
I also want to add I didn't hear other guests very often, which was welcome.
The room does get warm, even in February with heating turned off. By opening the windows for a while its not a problem, but may be an issue in the summer.
I would definitely come back, if I don't visit in the summer.Mahelin from Germany – 6 April 2025 (9/10)
Location is very convenient. The room was bigger than expected and quiet at night. They had extra pillows for peaky sleepers like me! Breakfast was good and the area could also be used for working or having a break. All good!
What could be improved: The internet was a bit slow.Afework from Italy – 25 March 2025 (8/10)
Every thing is awesome except I try to expain below
What could be improved: No coffee, No smoking area, to smoke one sigaret must go out side is not fear.Guy from Democratic Republic of Congo – 25 March 2025 (8/10)
I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and excellent assistance from the staff at the front desk. Their friendliness and professionalism made my stay even more enjoyable.
The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, providing a great space to relax or work. While there’s no espresso machine in the room, you can still enjoy a good coffee at breakfast or in the common areas designed for both rest and productivity.
The location is another strong point—just a short walk from a grocery store, a variety of restaurants, shops, and only four minutes from the metro station, making it incredibly convenient for getting around the city.
What could be improved: There’s no espresso machine in the room.
