Chez Esmara Et Philippe Fourche Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Chez Esmara Et Philippe Fourche on Rue De La Fourche, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street that feels authentically Brussels, not touristy at all. The building itself has that classic European charm without being overly fancy, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. You’re literally in the heart of Brussels, which means you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing, but the street itself is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with constant noise.
The Location Sweet Spot
This four-star place really nailed the location game — I mean, couples rate it 9.5 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Grand Place (which is stunning at night, by the way), and all those great Belgian beer bars and chocolate shops are right there. But here’s what I really appreciated: you can actually escape the tourist crowds by just stepping back onto your quiet little street. It’s like having the best of both worlds — central location without the chaos.
Sleep Quality That Actually Delivers
You know what’s rare in city hotels? Actually comfortable beds that let you sleep through the night. Well, this place gets it right — the beds are genuinely comfy, not just hotel-marketing comfortable. The room I stayed in wasn’t huge, but it was thoughtfully laid out and had everything I needed. The windows are well-insulated too, so even though you’re in the city center, street noise isn’t really an issue. I actually slept better here than I do at home sometimes.
The Authentic Brussels Experience
What I love about staying here is that it feels like you’re experiencing Brussels the way locals do, not just hitting the tourist highlights. The hosts, Esmara and Philippe, clearly know their city well — they’re not just running a business, they actually care about giving you a good experience. The whole setup feels more personal than your typical hotel, which makes sense given it’s their place. You’ll get recommendations that actually matter, not just the standard tourist traps everyone suggests.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to location and comfort — two things that can make or break a city trip. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just a number; it’s because you can walk everywhere important while staying somewhere that feels like a real neighborhood. Plus, after a long day of exploring Brussels (and trust me, you’ll be doing a lot of walking), coming back to a place with genuinely comfortable beds makes all the difference. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re traveling.

Reviews of Chez Esmara Et Philippe Fourche
Very central apartment in Brussels – Gert from Sweden – 11 May 2025 (8/10)
Extremely central apartment about one minute from the Grand Place. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby and a Carrefour supermarket 50 meters away. Good cooking facilities. We took the train from the airport to central station and then walked to the flat. It says 7 min on maps but streets are cobblestones and not easy to drag bagage along. Like other mention – the stairs are steep but my nearly 90 years old mother managed so it's not too bad.
very basic apartment, good enough if you do not spend time there other than sleep and a quick meal – Theo from Netherlands – 3 February 2025 (6/10)
I only pick this location for strategical reasons
What could be improved: the stairs are steep and narrow and impossible for taking heavy suitcases up or downstairsWe had very good stay at this place. Location is very near to city center and there was some issue with the heater, phil – Bhukya from United States – 8 October 2024 (8/10)
Location is very close to city center. Very good hospitality from philippe.
Fine. Convenient location. – Shona from United Kingdom – 3 October 2024 (6/10)
The flat was pleasantly furnished, very conveniently located right in the centre of the city, and we really appreciated having coffee and tea supplied.
What could be improved: It was so noisy at night. We were woken each night at about 3am by drunken people shouting in the street below. Then the street cleaners, then the bin men, then the recycling people with the noise of glass breaking as it was thrown into the van. I realise the owners can't do much about it, but you need to be prepared. Also, the staircase up to the flat is very steep, twisty and narrow so really tricky if you have any mobility issues or have large suitcases.Very good – Enrico from Italy – 31 May 2024 (8/10)
Great position in the heart of Bruxelles, close to metro and other services
What could be improved: Little small the bathroom, but niceGreat value and location with friendly staff – Mario from United Kingdom – 27 May 2024 (7/10)
Location was great and staff friendly, good communication throughout
What could be improved: The stairs (although I was informed beforehand), no air-conVery good – Danae from Spain – 11 May 2024 (8/10)
The. Location was excellent
What could be improved: Deu that it's an old building smells a lot to humidity in the stairsExcellent location, simple but has everything you need – Emma from United Kingdom – 22 March 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location – right next to Grande Place and easy walk from the station. Comfortable and clean. Great hosts – answered my questions quickly and sent through information in good time.
What could be improved: It was noisy at night outside so would recommend earplugs! The stairs are very tight and steep- the hosts warn you about this but just be careful as no large suitcases would fit .The apartment is small but perfectly formed and well-equipped to provide you with living space. – Herman from United Kingdom – 16 February 2023 (6/10)
Because the door code given to me wasn't working, and just as I was about to give up, someone opened the door from the inside and stepped out. Relief flooded me as I explained my predicament to the stranger, who generously offered to help.
The apartment is clean and very central. If you enjoy cooking, you'll be pleased to know that there are basic kitchen wares available that you can use to prepare your meals. One thing that I like is the brewed coffee.
What could be improved: The door code that I had been given did not work as expected. I stood in front of the locked door, frustration mounting with each unsuccessful attempt to enter the code. I checked and rechecked the numbers, but the lock remained stubbornly shut. I tried to call the owner but the number given to me was unreachable.
I have also experienced a sudden change in water temperature during my shower because the boiler was not turned on. If you notice that the water is turning cold unexpectedly, it's worth checking to see if the boiler is on. You can easily find the switch – which is below the big white round container. It takes some time to get the water hot.Convenient for a Short Stay – Tugba from Turkey – 19 October 2022 (8/10)
* Location is in the heart of the old city. It's very close to main attractions and also central train station.
* A well equipped kitchen which is a must for us. And the supermarket is very close.
* A very clean apartment.
* Although the building smells heavy curry because of the below restaurant fortunately inside of the apartment doesn't.
* And the owners are nice.
What could be improved: * The building smells heavy curry because of the below restaurant.
* The entrance staircase is very very narrow.
* I hate bathtub curtains. They're not hygienic at all.
